Sketches and concepts

Definitely not my best work, but these drawings (talking mostly about the top drawing) are valuable; not because they're good, but because they are just concept drawings. On the concept stage you have the freedom to mess around without the fear of seeing what comes out. You just take your pencil and draw! Who cares how it looks. In my case, I'm trying to design the antagonist for my story, I have no idea what the end result or the final look will be, I just know that this concept stage will help me reach my goal. Getting rid of these "bad drawings" in the beginning will payoff in the end...I love the concept stage!

Agree? Disagree? Does my little rant even make any sense??? Let me know your thoughts...

Take care :)

Definitely one of my main goals this year was to be more productive. More drawing means more opportunity for me to learn from my mistakes and grow as an artist. I'm always looking to challenge myself, my skills. As the year is coming to an end, I'm gonna try my hardest to keep drawing daily. Here's a quick sketch I made, scanned it and threw a color scheme I normally wouldn't use...all part of the challenge.

That time of year again

CTN is just around the corner, and after much thought, there's no way I can miss it. I've gone for the past two years and really have enjoyed it. It's great to see all the artwork and to meet the people behind it. And the best part about this year? I'm getting in for free!!! Thanks to Nucleus Gallery, I won a three day pass!!! I never would have guessed I would be the winner. Now I can't say I've never won anything :) I'm really looking forward to it...if only I could find a good excuse to ditch work on Friday........

Random Idea Comics

Hello there! Just wanted to tell you guys about some major changes made to some of my blogs. "Stinky's Big Show"  website will hit the back burner for now and will be replaced with "Random Idea Comics." But don't worry, this site will house Stinky's comic strip along with some random comics that I'll create when I have a chance. One of those random comics is "The Nastiest Man in the World," a comic about, well, a guy who is down-right nasty. This new site will greatly help me not only improve my storytelling, but to get more ideas out there. I think I put too much pressure on myself in the past with one comic, I would get stuck and basically just give up. With this new site, I'll be inspired to write and draw anything at anytime...randomly. That will definitely help me grow as a storyteller and I hope you guys will enjoy. Stay tuned!

Another treat...

Here's a quick random comic a came up with last night. Halloween related so it's a good day to post this. Had fun doing this short strip and I'm looking forward to posting more in the future...randomly.

NOTE : If you click on the comic and have a hard time reading it, just click on the "show original" button on the bottom left hand side. It will let you blow it up a bit and make it easier to read...

Sketchbook and painting...

I've been doing a lot of painting as of late...same subject, but a lot of painting none the less. I got to admit that I really enjoy it! It's something I always wanted to do but for some reason never got around to it. Maybe it was out of laziness or even out of fear, but I'm glad I discovered something fresh; something new to me that I can really enjoy! I really encourage others to come out of their safety zone and try something new, whether it's painting or using a different medium in their artwork. I'm sure you people out there will enjoy the freshness as well!

Anyway, the top drawing is Little Red Ridding Hood straight out of my sketchbook. To be honest, I drew it with the intention of painting it...but we'll see. More stuff to come in the near future, so stay tuned! Take care :)

Pink Panda Group Fundraiser

Hello fellow bloggers! A friend of mine is participating in the Susan G Koman San Diego Race for the Cure this November. The name of her group is "Pink Panda", so to help her raise funds, I painted ten limited edition Pink Panda 3x3 inch paintings! Look for more of these paintings in the near future!

Hello everyone! This week I've had some time to waste so I decided to try my luck at painting. I really don't paint, I'm not a painter but the last time I painted something was about 6 or 7 years ago; it was a mural that was about 4ft x 16ft, a lot of fun! Anyway, this was my first time painting on canvas (small canvas...but still) and I enjoyed it very much. We'll see what happens, I'll definitely paint more in the near future...stay tuned!

Half a trash can

Hello there! I was bored yesterday, so I went out and cruised around ; something I like to do when I have nothing to do or looking for inspiration. I was around Lake Hollywood and to my surprise there was no one hardly there, so I decided to bust out my camera and take some pics. I had never taken "360" pictures before, so I took the opportunity and was pretty pleased with the results. I think I was a picture or two away from this truly being "360" but you get the point.

Just for some comic relief, decided to add Stinky in the picture. It's fun dropping him in random pictures of places I've visited. I'll be doing more in the future. I think that's it for today, take care everyone!

Update : I noticed you couldn't read Stinky's bubble, so I added another picture. Another thing...too bad you can't see the pictures in all their glory...

Last week I went to go see the "Art in the streets" exhibition down at MOCA...Amazing!!! It was a lot of fun just walking around for hours looking at all the cool artwork. It was surreal, which got me would a cartoon character act in a surrounding like this? So I thought it would be funny to draw Stinky in some of the photos I took and see where he would take me, see how he would react in that crazy environment. This is my first photo/drawing, I'll be drawing more later this week...let me know what you guys think. Till next time, take care!!!

Flying Chicken

Just a quick update, had fun with this one...will explore this character further as I get closer to illustrating a short story I wrote for the big guy. Stay tuned...

Here are some character designs I did for a competition. They weren't picked, but just wanted to share these since it's something different than what I normally do. I like exploring different styles and seeing other people's styles as well, I have a better appreciation for it as I've gotten older. If you're a young artist, my advice to you is to not limit yourself to one style, EXPLORE....that's the key word to keep in mind. Til next time, see ya!

Bye Bye and Thanks for the support!!!...

...I'm not going anywhere, but "Stinky's Big Show" is. I've had a TUMBLR site for years now but I haven't really used it. This weekend I spent some time messing with it and I kinda liked it. I thought it would be a good idea to move SBS there, personally I think tumblr suits it a lot better. As of late I've gotten the feeling that blogger is losing some steam (I don't know, maybe it's just me) I might permanently move "El Gallo Pistolero" blog to tumblr as well. As for this site, I've been here for four years and have enjoyed the countless hours browsing through some awesome blogs and posting my work. I'll remain here as long as everyone out there is still interested, I guess we'll have to wait and see...

...who am I kidding! I love this site! 'Til next time! Take care!

Sketchbook pages

Just a couple of sketches I do randomly throughout the day. I'll post more sketches soon.
